About Wendy

Wendy Tyrer is a talented, energetic and considerably loopy illustrator and animator based in Melbourne. From her earliest memories, she was always drawing (mostly weird stuff like monsters) and making up bizarre stories about her characters.

After studying graphic design at Monash University, the precociously talented youngster scored a place at the highly competitive post-graduate animation course at RMIT in 1997. Wendy then spent five years working at some of Australia’s best known multi-media design firms and advertising agencies developing characters, games and animation projects, before establishing her own business, Rood.

Wendy sees herself primarily as a story-teller, driven by the desire to tell meaningful and beautiful stories. Not surprisingly, her illustration styles and characters are often developed by using a story-boarding process. She uses a combination of traditional and modern techniques, starting out sitting at the kitchen table with pencil and paper and then pulling together her ideas on the computer.

More than a tad nutty, Wendy’s warm and engaging personality is transferred to her Fefferoni series illustrations and the characters and stories she creates. The illustration style was developed from storyboards for a short film project in 2004. With new characters and side stories are continually being added, the Fefferoni series is a collection of beautiful, quirky (and highly collectible) illustrations that each have their own story. The series captures Wendy’s obsession with story telling and creating remarkable characters.
